Privacy policy

This website is operated by Chris Castorena for Banning City Council 2026. This policy explains what information may be collected when you use the site and how the campaign may use it.

Information you choose to provide

If you join the campaign, volunteer, or request a sign, the site stores the contact information, ZIP code, interests, source page, and permissions you submit so the campaign can follow up. The short email-updates form stores only your email address, email consent, language, source location on the site, request time, and request status. It does not ask for your name, ZIP code, phone number, or address, and it does not authorize calls or text messages. The request is saved for follow-up, and the site attempts to notify the campaign. Submitting the form is not a promise of an immediate email or an automatic voting reminder.

The Banning Within Reach activity stores the choices and travel mode submitted, but it doesn’t ask for a name, address, or contact information. Donations are processed by ActBlue under its own privacy practices; the campaign doesn’t receive your full payment-card information.

If you request a yard sign, we also save the delivery address you provide and include it in the campaign’s signup notification so the team can arrange delivery. Delivery addresses are not included in website analytics.

Campaign email requests and delivery

We use Resend to send form notifications to the campaign and to manage requested campaign emails. When you explicitly request email updates, the site queues your email address, language, and name if provided for the campaign’s mailing list. Joining as a volunteer without selecting email updates does not add you to that list. Previously recorded unsubscribe choices are checked before adding an existing contact. Form records and delivery attempts remain saved if the email service is unavailable; a saved request does not mean that an email has reached an inbox. No newsletter is sent automatically when you submit a form.

Information collected automatically

The site’s hosting and security providers may process basic technical information, such as IP address, browser type, device information, pages requested, and timestamps, to deliver and protect the website. The campaign doesn’t sell personal information.

To limit automated form abuse, the site temporarily counts submissions using secret-key-protected codes derived from a network address and, for signups, the submitted email address. It does not store the raw network address in these counters or use them for analytics. The codes change with each time window; expired counters are removed during subsequent form processing and are no longer used after their window ends.

Anonymous website counts

To understand which pages and voting tools are useful, the site counts page views and clicks on selected links. These are combined into daily totals by page, language, broad screen-size category, and a short list of traffic-source and campaign categories. This measurement uses no cookies or visitor identifiers and stores no IP addresses, contact details, form responses, full links, or referring web addresses. Unrecognized campaign labels are grouped as “other.” We honor Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals by skipping these counts. These totals describe activity, not unique people.

How information may be used

The campaign may use information to respond to you, organize volunteers, provide campaign updates you requested, comply with election and legal obligations, prevent abuse, and improve the website. Information may be shared with service providers working for the campaign, when legally required, or to protect rights and safety.

Your choices

You may ask to update or delete information you previously provided, subject to campaign-finance recordkeeping and other legal requirements. To stop campaign emails, contact the campaign at the address below or use an unsubscribe link when one is provided in a message. For text messages, reply STOP to opt out. Providing a mobile number or agreeing to texts isn’t required to participate.
